— WHAT IS SPRING BALANCE CALIBRATION —

What Is Spring Balance Calibration & Why Does It Matter?

Think of a quality lab that relies on a spring balance for daily measurements. If it has drifted even slightly from its true value, every reading becomes unreliable — leading to defective products, failed audits, or safety risks. Regular calibration is the only way to confirm your instrument is telling the truth.

Spring Balance calibration means comparing its readings against a NABL-traceable certified reference standard at multiple test points, recording the deviations, adjusting where possible, and issuing an NABL certificate — accepted by ISO 9001, IATF 16949, and all quality auditors.

Check

Compare readings against a NABL-traceable reference standard across the full measurement range.

Correct

Adjust or document deviations so your instrument reads within accepted tolerance.

Certify

Issue a NABL-accredited certificate (CC-2480) with full traceability documentation.

— OUR PROCESS —

Calibration Process — Step by Step

01

Receipt & Identification

Spring balance received. Scale range, graduation, make, and serial number recorded. Balance inspected for pointer alignment, spring fatigue, and legibility of scale markings.

02

Zero Check & Suspension

Balance suspended vertically in calibration rig. Zero confirmed at no-load. Any zero offset noted before applying loads.

03

5-Point Force Calibration

Dead weights applied at 5 setpoints: ~10%, 25%, 50%, 75%, and 100% of full scale. Applied force calculated from certified mass × local gravity (g = 9.7961 m/s² for Gujarat).

04

Error & Hysteresis Check

Scale error (indicated minus applied) measured at each point. Hysteresis checked by loading and unloading. Standard deviation and maximum error computed.

05

Uncertainty Calculation

Expanded uncertainty (k=2) per GUM. Contributions: reference mass uncertainty, local gravity, pointer reading resolution, and repeatability.

06

NABL Certificate Issue

NABL CC-2480 certificate reporting applied force (N), indicated value, error, uncertainty (k=2), and traceability to NPL/BIPM.

— NON-NABL CALIBRATION —

Non-NABL Spring Balance Calibration Also Available

For routine maintenance, bulk calibration, or internal QC checks where a full NABL certificate is not mandatory — Prism offers cost-effective non-NABL calibration using the same NABL-traceable reference standards and trained engineers.

  • All measurements traceable to NABL-accredited references
  • Same Prism engineers, same lab equipment
  • Calibration report with readings and deviations provided
  • Ideal for internal QA, maintenance, or high-volume batches
  • Upgrade to full NABL certificate at any time

Traceable References

All non-NABL work uses NABL-certified reference standards — readings are still reliable and defensible.

Faster Turnaround

Without full NABL documentation, instruments return faster — ideal for urgent production schedules.

Cost-Effective

Non-NABL calibration costs less — practical for large batches or routine periodic checks.

Onsite or In-Lab

Available at your facility or at our Vatva lab — same quality, more flexibility.
